Whenever I ask mothers and other parents in urban centers on what food they use to wean their infants from milk into solid foods, many shy away with a mumble - milk, fruits...

Such responses leave me tongue-tied. One, food is cultural, which means that whatever one chooses to eat is what their food is. I enjoy millet porridge and I never pause to declare that I weaned my children on millet-flour enriched with sardines, beans and groundnuts.
